Rachael Pruett-Hornbaker

Rachael Pruett is in her fourth season leading the Drake women's golf program after being named head coach on July 17, 2015.

Under her guidance, the Bulldogs have consistently improved on the course, finishing fifth at the 2019 MVC Championships and just four strokes out of second place for the program's best finish since 2012.

Her impact on the program has been felt off the course as well as the Bulldogs earned a program-record 3.73 grade point average in 2018-19. That GPA was the 14th highest in the nation and four Bulldogs earned All-American Scholar honors from the Women's Golf Coaches Association.

The team posted seven top-five finishes in 2018-19, including a title at the UNI women's invitational. The team also had two rounds under 300, including a season-low of 295 in the opening round of the Red Rocks Invitational. Five Bulldogs also posted season averages of less than 80 under her mentorship in 2018-19, including freshman Haeri Lee who was tied for eighth at the MVC Championship. Lee finished the season with a team-best 76.7 average.

The rebuilding continued in 2017-18 as the team averaged a 316 total in its rounds with two Bulldogs posting averages below 80 on the season. Glennie also finished tied for 18th at the MVC Championship to earn her second Top-18 Flag as a Bulldog.

In 2017, Madison Glennie and Grace Dunn each posted a round average of less than 79 and posted 10 combined top-20 finishes. Glennie earned her second straight MVC Top-18 Flag honor as she finished in 17th-place at the MVC Championship.

In her first season leading the Bulldogs, Pruett's squad won the Creighton Classic, while Madison Glennie earned medalist honors by shooing a 148 (76-72). The team put together one of its best performances of the season at the Bulldog Invitational in Mount Pleasant, S.C., posting a 629 (316-313), good for fourth-place out of 10 teams.

Pruett joined the Drake program from Cleveland State University, where she spent the last two years as associate head men’s and women’s golf coach. Her main role with the Vikings was leading the women’s golf team, as she was responsible for all aspects of the program. This past spring, Pruett helped the men’s squad win the Horizon League Championship, while leading the women’s team to a third place finish at the league tournament. In her first season at CSU, Pruett guided the women’s squad to a fifth place showing at the Horizon League Championship, while assisting the men’s team to a league title.

Prior to her tenure at Cleveland State, Pruett served as the graduate assistant coach at her alma mater, Ball State, for two years, helping the Cardinals to a runner-up finish at the 2011-12 Mid-American Conference tournament.

Pruett was a four-year letterwinner at Ball State from 2007-10, finishing her career with a 78.78 scoring average, second all-time in Ball State history. A member of the 2010 All-MAC tournament team when she placed fifth, Pruett won the 2010 Ball State Cardinal Classic for her first career victory. She was an Academic All-MAC selection as a junior and senior and was a four-time NGCA All-America Scholar.

She graduated magna cum laude in 2010 with degree in exercise science and received a master’s degree from Ball State in biomechanics in 2013. In the summer of 2019, she married Lindsey Pruett-Hornbaker. Lindsey is the grant officer for Preemptive Love Collation and in graduate school at Drake for clinical mental health counseling.
