Mady Schmidt 2018

Mady Schmidt

Mady Schmidt is in her first season as assistant coach with the Drake University volleyball team.

Schmidt joined the Bulldogs after one season at Waldorf University where she quickly ascended to interim co-head  coach after briefly serving as a graduate assistant.

Prior to Waldorf, Schmidt spent two seasons at Marshalltown Community College (MCC), where she was assistant women’s basketball coach for two years and assistant volleyball coach with the Tigers one year.

A native of Marshalltown, Iowa, Schmidt graduated from Ames High School in 2011. She went on to attend Iowa Western Community College and played basketball for the Reivers for one season before transferring to MCC.

While at MCC, Schmidt played basketball and volleyball for the Tigers. She served as a team captain for the women’s basketball team and was named a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II All-Region XI selection as a sophomore. Schmidt also earned second-team all-Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) honors in volleyball as a sophomore, finishing the season ranked second in the nation for kills per set (4.53) and ninth nationally in total kills (507).

In both sports, Schmidt was a first-team academic all-region selection and a NJCAA Pinnacle Award recipient for Academic and Athletic Excellence. Schmidt holds the distinction of being part of just a handful of female athletes who have scored at least 25 points in a basketball game and recorded 25 kills in a volleyball match throughout their collegiate career, dating back several seasons, according to PrestoSports.

In 2014, Schmidt received an associate’s degree in liberal arts from MCC. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Iowa State University in 2016.

Schmidt is currently pursuing a master’s of arts degree in organizational leadership from Waldorf University with a concentration in sports management. She resides in Ankeny, Iowa, with her husband, Andrew.
