DES MOINES, IOWA - Senior forward
Klayton Korver scored a game-high 19 points, including 10 in the second half, to pace the Drake men's basketball team to a 69-51 exhibition victory past Southwest Minnesota State Saturday in the Drake Knapp Center.
Korver made five of seven three-point baskets for the Bulldogs in their final tune-up before opening the regular season Friday facing UC San Diego in the Saint Mary's Classic in Moraga, Calif.
"I was pleased with our effort today against a very, big physical team in Southwest Minnesota State," said Drake head coach
Keno Davis. "I feel that we got some much needed experience for our newcomers over the past two exhibition games. I am definitely satisfied with our team's work ethic and defensive intensity this early in the season. "
Senior guard
Leonard Houston added 16 points, along with five steals and two blocked shots.
Drake's pressure defense forced Southwest Minnesota State into 24 turnovers with the Bulldogs scoring 30 points off the miscues.
Drake also limited Southwest Minnesota State to just 35.4 percent shooting from the field.
Sophomore guard
Josh Young added 12 points, while grabbing a team-high six rebounds for the Bulldogs.
