DES MOINES, IOWA ? The men's track and field team at Drake boasts the nation's highest cumulative grade-point average among NCAA Division I men's track & field teams and was one of 34 programs named 2007 All-Academic Track & Field Teams by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Tuesday.
Drake sophomore
Jeff Grassmeyer (Fremont, Neb.), who won the 2007 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship 5,000 meter run, was named to the USTFCCCA list of Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
Drake University (3.470), Oklahoma State (3.342) and the University of Portland (3.281) made up the top three teams with the highest overall grade-point averages.
The selection of the All-Academic Indoor and Outdoor Team's of the Year award is based on a combination of athletic and academic achievements. The top honor goes to the team that has the best finish at the Division I Indoor and/or Outdoor National Championships that also holds the highest cumulative GPA.
To be nominated, the team must carry a minimum 3.000 cumulative GPA.
