Drake To PLay For Two Titles In Final Day Of State Farm MVC Women's Tennis Individuals

DES MOINES, IOWA ? Freshman Gabby Demos (Chesterfield, Mo./Lafayette) earned a pair of victories at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Individuals on Saturday (Oct. 11) setting up the Drake women's tennis team to play for a pair of titles when tournament action concludes on Sunday (Oct. 12).

The Bulldogs registered 6-5 combined singles/doubles ledger on the day, including 3-0 in doubles play.

Demos posted a 6-3, 6-4, decision over Stephanie Dalmacio of Wichita State to advance to the title match of the No. 2 singles draw.

In doubles, Demos paired with freshman Amanda Aragon (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) to garner a spot in the final of the No. 2 doubles flight with an 8-4 decision over Vishakha Sheoran and Jessica Flannery of Southern Illinois.

Senior Veronika Leszayova (Povazska Bystrica/Slovak Republic/Gymnazium No. 1) will play for third-place honors in the top singles draw after falling, 6-4, 6-1, to Sarah Meghoufel of Indiana State.

Senior Kari Sloboth (Omaha, Neb./Burke) was dealt a, 6-4, 6-3, setback to Martina Ce of Southern Illinois in the No. 5 singles flight and will fight for a third-place finish.

The third-place match at No. 7 singles will be a battle of Bulldogs as senior Sarah Plowman (Halifax, Nova Scotia/Halifax Grammar) faces freshman Earlynn Lauer (Wichita, Kan./Goddard).

Final day competition gets underway at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday (Oct. 11).
