DRAKE WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM BATTLES NEBRASKA TO 0-0 DOUBLE OVERTIME TIE

LI
NCOLN, NEB. -- The Drake women's soccer team opened up a two-game road swing against Big 12 Conference opponents by battling to a 0-0 double overtime tie at Nebraska Tuesday.

Drake junior goalkeeper Jenny Schroeder (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia) recorded her first shutout of the season, collecting 10 saves.

"To be able to absorb Nebraska's attack and come away with a shutout should provide our team with momentum as we approach another Big 12 opponent," said first-year Drake coach Lindsey Horner.

The Bulldogs, who moved to 1-4-1, will play at Iowa State Friday.

"It was a very physical game," Horner added. "It wasn't pretty on our part, but we were organized defensively and every player on our team was willing to do the work defensively."

Drake only had three shots in the contest, compared to 22 by Nebraska.

Junior Crystal Townley (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) and Karissa Brown (Encinitas, Calif./LaCosta Canyon) each had a shot on goal for Drake.

"We dropped into a defensive formation and hung on," said Horner. "We had a few chances in the attack, but couldn't convert."

Junior Melissa Lewis (Edina, Minn./Edina) also had a shot for the Bulldogs, who will be playing their next four matches on the road.

Nebraska moved to 2-1-1. The Huskers collected eight corner kicks, while Drake had one.
