AMES, IOWA -- Sophomore Casey McDermott (Newton, Iowa) led the Drake women's cross country team at the Iowa State Open Saturday by placing 23rd in the 6,000-meter race.
McDermott was clocked in 23 minutes 13 seconds.
Drake sophomore Meredith Bell (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) was 38th in 24:17, while Drake junior Courtney Heinz (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) was 41st in 24:52.
Other Drake results included senior Laura Zoulek (Butler, Wis./Hamilton) 43rd, 25:31; senior Kristen Looney (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park), 45th, 25:44; sophomore Lindsay Smith (Lakeville, Minn.), 46th in 25:55; Emma Barker (St. Paul, Minn./Central)), 51st 26:57; and sophomore Sarah Havelka (Kansas City, Mo.), 53rd, 28:23.
Lisa Koll, who won the NCAA outdoor 10,000-meter run last spring, captured individual honors winning the meet in 21:06.
