WICHITA, KAN. - Wichita State took advantage of a cold shooting spell by Drake to end the first half en route to a 63-47 Missouri Valley Conference men's basketball victory Saturday.
With the score tied at 17-17, Drake missed nine of its last 10 shots to close out the first half, making just one basket in the last 8 minutes 43 seconds.
Wichita State then went on a 15-4 run to close out the first half.
Sophomore guard
Josh Parker (Harvey, Ill.) broke out of a shooting slump by leading Drake with 18 points, hitting four three-point baskets.
Parker equaled his entire previous three-game total of 18 points.
Junior guard
Josh Young (Lawton, Okla.) added 12 points for Drake which fell to 14-9 overall, including a 5-6 league mark.
The Bulldogs shot a season-low 30.4 percent, making just 14 of 46 shots.
During Drake's dry spell to end the first half, the Bulldogs also made just one of five free throws in same stretch, while committing three turnovers.
Senior forward
Jonathan Cox (Barrington, Ill.) collected eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.
He moved into No. 4 on the school career rebounding charts at 732, surpassing Al Williams who had 731 from 1967-70.
Cox played only nine minutes in the first half, sitting out the last 7:42 of the period when he picked up his second foul.
