Parker To Leave Men's Basketball Program

DES MOINES, IOWA  -  Josh Parker, a six-foot sophomore guard from Harvey, Ill., will transfer from the Drake men's basketball team, head coach Mark Phelps disclosed Friday.

"I met with Josh about his future at Drake," said Phelps. "While we are sad to see him leave, I understand his situation. He is a quality individual on and off the court. We appreciate his hard work and the contributions that he has put into the Drake program."

Parker appeared in 33 games, starting in nine games, while averaging 10.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 rebounds. He led the team in scoring in six games, including a career-high 25 points in a home game against Northern Iowa.

"This was a difficult decision," said Parker. "I sat down with my family and we decided leaving would be the best thing for me at this point. I appreciate Drake and all the support the fans, coaches and my teammates have given me.  Drake is a great place.

"I have enjoyed my career at Drake and leave with fond memories. I wish the coaches and my teammates all the success in the future."
