LOUISVILLE, KY. - The Drake men's tennis team will battle for
as many as five titles on the final day of the Louisville Winter Invitational on
Sunday (Oct. 31) after the Bulldogs posted a 9-2 combined singles/doubles
ledger on Saturday (Oct. 30).
In the top flight of singles,
senior Mauricio Ballivian (Santa
Cruz, Bolivia) reached the title match on the strength of a, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (3),
victory over Maks Gold of Kentucky.
In the consolation portion of the
draw, sophomore Jean Erasmus
(Windhoek, Namibia) qualified for the title tilt after dispatching of Joe
Salisbury of Memphis, 6-4, 6-3.
Junior Jonathan Hadash (Lapid, Israel) advanced to the finals of the "B"
flight besting Jordan Smith of Memphis, 7-6 (5), 7-5.
Sophomore Mark Fouad (Cairo, Egypt) earned his way into the consolation
finale registering a, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (4), win against Steve McLoughlin of
Butler.
In doubles, the tandem of
freshman Robin Goodman (Cambridge,
England) and Erasmus claimed the consolation title downing Elliot Barnwell and
Shaun Waters of Middle Tennessee State, 8-5
In the main doubles flight,
Ballivian and Hadash defeated Cedric De Zutter and Daniel Shidler of Memphis,
8-3, in the quarterfinals, before reaching the championship match downing David
O'Hare and Joe Salisbury of Memphis, 9-8 (4).
Action at the Louisville Fall
Invitational concludes on Sunday (Oct. 31).
