LOUISVILLE, KY. - Senior Mauricio Ballivian (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) and sophomore Jean Erasmus (Windhoek, Namibia) each captured single crowns leading
the Drake men's tennis team on Sunday (Oct. 31) in final day competition at the
Louisville Winter Invitational.
Ballivian earned his title in the
"A" flight disposing of Johnny Ferrer of Memphis, 6-1, 7-5.
Staking rights to the
championship in the "A" consolation draw was Erasmus, who downed Erren Carter
of Louisville, 6-3, 6-3.
Junior Jonathan Hadash (Lapid, Israel) was unable to play his title tilt
in the "B" bracket against John Taylor of Memphis due to injury, while sophomore
Mark Fouad (Cairo, Egypt) came up
short in the consolation half of the draw versus Armaan Choudhary of Chicago
State, 1-6, 7-5, 6-1.
In the doubles final, Ballivian
and Hadash went to the tiebreaker before falling to Ferrer and Taylor of
Memphis, 9-8 (5).
In other matches, freshman Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England) and sophomore
Ryan Drake (Hilton Head Island,
S.C.) each collected victories.
The Bulldogs open their spring
season hosting the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Individuals at the
Roger Knapp Tennis Center, Jan. 21-23, 2011.
