Drake Closes Out Great Alaska Shootout Versus Weber State

A young Drake basketball team continues an ambitious six-game road swing at the 33rd annual Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout, playing Weber State on Saturday (Nov. 27) at 8:30 p.m. CT.

The Bulldogs opened tournament action besting Southern Utah, 78-59, on Wednesday (Nov. 24) before falling to St. John's, 82-39, on Friday (Nov. 26). Weber State defeated Alaska Anchorage, 86-54, on Thursday (Nov. 25), before dropping a 59-58 decision versus Arizona State on Friday (Nov. 26).

THE SERIES:  Drake is meeting Weber State for the first time in school history.

DRAKE AGAINST THE BIG SKY: 
Saturday's game versus Weber State will mark first time Drake has faced a school from the Big Sky since the Bulldogs lost in overtime to Montana in the Drake Regency Challenge, 78-72, Dec. 10, 2005.  Drake owns a 2-1 mark in three previous encounters with nine members of the conference.  The Bulldogs own winning records against Idaho State (1-0) and Portland State (1-0).

SCOUTING WEBER STATE: Weber State, is off to a 2-3 start with victories over Colorado Christian (97-73, Nov. 16) and Alaska-Anchorage (86-54, Nov. 25).  The Wildcats are led by three players averaging double-figures in scoring with Damian Lillard, Lindsey Hughey and Scott Bamforth registering 20.8, 11.4 and 10.4 points, respectively.  Hughey is Weber State's leading rebounder at 4.8 rebounds per game, while Lillard has dished out a team-high 17 assists.
