DES MOINES, IOWA - In business-like fashion the Drake men's tennis team
pulled in its second victory of the day notching a 6-1 triumph over Graceland
on Sunday evening (March 7) at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
"The guys were sharp and are getting better each day,"
Bulldog head coach Jimmy Borendame commented.
"UMKC will be a great match as it won its conference last season and
went to the NCAA Tournament. We're
looking forward to the match and are hoping a big crowd comes out to offer
support."
The Bulldogs stole the momentum in the match sweeping
doubles play for the fifth consecutive home tilt and the seventh time this
season, all wins.
Freshman Jean Erasmus (Windhoek, Namibia) extended Drake's advantage to
2-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Patxy Suarez at No. 5.
Freshman James McKie (Edinburgh, Scotland) made it 3-0 after dispatching
of Matthew Waite, 6-1, 6-0 on the No. 2 court.
Junior Mauricio Ballivian (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) reeled in the
deciding point in the affair knocking off Remy Caffardo at No. 1, 6-1, 6-2.
Drake also garnered victories from sophomore Jonathan Hadash (Lapid,
Israel) and freshman Ryan Drake (Hilton Head Island, S.C) at the Nos. 3 and 5 positions.
The Bulldogs close out their three-match homestand on
Wednesday (March 10) entertaining UMKC at 5:00 p.m.
