DES MOINES, IOWA - Coming
into the final day of the Drake Fall Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 12) the
Drake women's tennis team stood in line to play for as many as three titles but
Northern Iowa thwarted each attempt en route to capturing each of the three
singles' titles.
Sophomore Manca Krizman
(Solkan, Slovenia) reached the championship match for the Bulldogs in the top
draw with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over North Dakota's Erin Kappers before Northern
Iowa's Phoebe Walker bested her in the title tilt, 7-5, 6-1.
Falling short in their respective semifinal contests were juniors Amanda Aragon (Fort Collins, Colo.), Jessica Aguilera (Santa Cruz, Bolivia)
and Earlynn Lauer (Wichita, Kan.) in
the "B", "B" and "C" flights, respectively.
Drake returns to action in two weeks at the Northern Iowa Invitational
(Sept. 24-26).
