TULSA, Okla. - Junior Anis Ghorbel (Sfax, Tunisia) continued
his march in the main draw of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA)
Men's Tennis Central Regional on Sunday (Oct. 23) registering a 2-6, 6-3, 6-0
triumph over Tulsa's Grant Ive to advance into Monday's (Oct. 24) quarterfinal
round.
Ghorbel will next face fifth-seeded Clifford Marsland of Tulsa with a
berth in the tournament's semifinals on the line.
The last Bulldogs to reach the quarterfinals were juniors Jean Erasmus (Windhoek, Namibia) and James McKie (Edinburgh, Scotland) a year ago. The last Drake player to make the quarterfinals and win was Maor Zirkin in
2008. Zirkin downed Calin Paar of
Nebraska in three sets before dropping his semifinal encounter versus Matt
Hogan of Arkansas.
Drake also garnered a pair of consolation victories from Erasmus, while
sophomore Robin Goodman (Cambridge,
England) and freshman Alen Salibasic
(Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina) each went 1-1 in consolation tilts.
