ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Drake men's cross country sophomores Brogan Austin (Boone, Iowa) and Doug Brady (Englewood, Colo.), along
with senior Colin Hagan (Wichita,
Kan.) were named to the 2011 Missouri Valley
Conference Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Team the league announced today (Nov.
1).
This marks the first time
that each of the student-athletes has made the MVC Scholar-Athlete team.
Austin, who holds a 3.37 grade point average in math education, won the State Farm
MVC Cross Country Championship on Oct. 30 crossing the line in 25:15.0 becoming the first Drake runner since Bobby Anderson since 2004 to take home the
individual title.
Brady, a marketing and accounting major who owns a 3.52 GPA, finished 11th at the MVC Cross Country Championship with a personal best of
25:31.6 after winning the Grand
View Invitational earlier this year.
An economics major with a 3.25 GPA, Hagan finished in 14th-place at the conference meet clocking in at 25:45.5. He was also selected to the 2010-11
MVC Academic Honor Roll.
"Our team takes great
pride in their academic achievement and its a very dedicated group," commented
head coach Dan Hostager. "Drake's
outstanding educational environment is why they're here so its nice to see them
get recognized for all of their hard work in and out of the classroom."
Scholar-Athlete
honors require athletes to meet performance standards, as they must finish
among the first 20 runners at the conference championship and hold at least a
cumulative 3.2 GPA and be a sophomore in athletic- and academic-standing to earn
a spot on the MVC Scholar-Athlete team.
