BIRMINGHAM, ALA. - The Drake
men's tennis team extended its winning streak to four straight matches on
Monday (March 14) as the Bulldogs picked up a 5-2 victory at UAB (University of
Alabama at Birmingham).
Drake won the first two doubles matches to earn the doubles point with
the tandem of sophomores Jean Erasmus
(Windhoek, Namibia) and James McKie
(Edinburgh, Scotland) collecting the deciding tally at No. 2. The duo bested Tom Puetz and David
Zimmerman, 8-6.
In singles, sophomore Anis Ghorbel (Sfax, Tunisia) and freshman Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England) extended the margin to 3-0 on the
strength of triumphs at the Nos. 4 and 5 positions, respectively.
Goodman downed Dan Cornei at No. 5, 6-3, 6-2, while Ghorbel notched a,
6-3, 6-1, victory over Daniel Moser at No. 4.
Sealing the decision for Drake was Erasmus, who registered a 6-3, 7-5, at
No. 2 against Lucas Dirube.
The Bulldogs also garnered victories at the No. 3 position from McKie.
Drake continues its four-match road swing with a 1:00 p.m. tilt at
Memphis on Wednesday (March 16).
