MORAGA, Calif. - The Drake University
softball team batted around in a five-run fifth that led to a 7-5 victory over
St. Mary's Wednesday in the team's final non-conference tune up.
Down, 4-2,
after four innings, the Bulldogs tallied four hits, knocked Gael starter
Britany Linton out of the game and tipped the contest in their favor with a
five-run fifth.
The rally
began in the fourth, when Drake used an RBI double by freshman Nicole Randel (Alpine, Calif.) and
three-straight walks by Linton to plate two runs and cut the St.
Mary's lead to 4-2.
An
inning-opening walk by Torey Craddock
(Tucson, Ariz.)
knocked Linton from the circle and set the stage for Drake's big inning.
Randel was
on of four Bulldogs with two hits, including seniors Jenna DeLong (Dalton Gardens, Idaho), and Molly McClelland (West Des Moines, Iowa) and sophomore Lindsey Vande Wall (Prairie City,
Iowa). DeLong added two RBI; as
did sophomore Macie Silliman (Winterset, Iowa).
DeLong
earned her seventh win of the year and 50th of her career with a
complete-game effort. The senior allowed four runs on eight hits while striking
out three to move to 7-4 overall.
The Bulldogs
open their home and Missouri Valley Conference schedule with a doubleheader
against Indiana State Saturday. First pitch of game one
is scheduled for noon.
