ST. LOUIS, MO. - The Missouri Valley Conference has announced that Drake
sophomore
Anis Ghorbel (Sfax, Tunisia) has been tabbed as the MVC Men's Tennis Player of the
Week. This marks the third weekly accolade for a Drake men's tennis player
this season and the second in Ghorbel's career.
"Anis has continued to improve as both a player and a leader
in his first spring of dual matches," Drake head coach Evan Austin commented. "He's playing with a great deal of
confidence and I look for him to play a critical role in helping us reach our
team goals the rest of the season."
Ghorbel posted a perfect 6-0 combined singles/doubles mark
en route to helping Drake extend its winning streak to six straight matches
with a trio of victories last week.
His win at No. 4 singles vs. Murray State on March 18
clinched the match in a 6-1 Bulldogs' victory. He also cracked the ITA
national rankings in doubles at No. 72 with senior Mauricio Ballivian (Santa Cruz, Bolivia).
Ghorbel owns a 27-8 combined singles/doubles ledger,
including singles wins in eight of his last 10 tilts.
Ghorbel and the Bulldogs (12-2) will look for their seventh
consecutive victory when Drake opens Missouri Valley Conference action with a
1:00 p.m. match at Creighton on Saturday (March 26).
