EUGENE, Ore. – Junior Jon DeGrave (Lake Villa, Ill.) had the ninth-fastest
time in the preliminary rounds of the 400-meter hurdles to qualify for the
quarterfinals at the NCAA West Regional on Thursday (May 26).
DeGrave
was timed in 51.07, his second-best time of the year. DeGrave has a personal
best time of 50.92, which he set at the Drake Relays earlier this season.
“I'm
pretty happy with how aggressively I came out today,” commented DeGrave. "There
are some things that I can still improve on for tomorrow, but I think that if I am
able to make those adjustments that I will have a shot to advance.”
The
quarterfinals of the 400-meter hurdles, which consists of 24 competitors, will
take place on Friday (May 27) at 7:35 p.m. CT at historic Hayward Field. 12
runners will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track And Field Championship held at
Drake Stadium (June 8-11).
Sophomore Kevin Harp (Iowa City, Iowa) saw his
season draw to a close in the preliminary rounds of the javelin throw. Harp's best throw of the afternoon was 180 feet 9 inches during rainy and cool conditions.
Freshman Omet Kak (Des Moines, Iowa) was 41st
in the preliminary round of the 1500 and did not advance to the quarterfinals.
Kak was clocked in 3:51.87.
Fellow freshman Brogan Austin (Boone, Iowa), in only
his second 10,000-meter race of his collegiate race, placed 36th finishing in 30:28.59.
