FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. -- In its first 6,000-meter race of the year, the Drake women's cross country team finished fifth at the Oz Memorial held at the Les Bolstad Golf Course on Friday (Sept. 9).
Host Minnesota ran away with the team title scoring 15 points, the lowest-possible score for a scored meet.
"We had a lot of women making their 6,000-meter debut today so we were hoping for some cooler weather," commented head coach Dan Hostager. "I was proud of their efforts, but we had three runners who were unable to finish which reflected in our team score."
The trio of sophomore Amanda Marwitz (Crystal Lake, Ill.) and freshmen Krista Maguire (Wausau, Wis.) and Melissa Parks (Norfolk, Neb.) finished in 52nd, 53th and 54th places, respectively. Marwitz was timed in 25:17.37, while Maguire crossed the line in 25:22.35 and Parks finished a second behind her in 25:23:18.
The Bulldogs will have two weeks off before their return to Falcon Heights, Minn., to compete at the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 24.
"We are excited to get two more weeks of training under our belts before coming back up here for the Griak Invitational," said Hostager.
