DES MOINES, Iowa - Drake freshman Mariel Fulton (Louisville, Colo.) had a
third-place showing in her first collegiate race at the Bulldog Classic on
Friday (Sept. 2).
Fulton finished the 4,000-meter course at Ewing Park in 15:18.44, while fellow
freshman Melissa Parks (Norfolk, Neb.)
was 12th in 15:56.25.
"It's
certainly encouraging to see two freshmen lead the way in their first
collegiate competition," commented Drake head coach Dan Hostager.
The Bulldogs had four runners finish 15th-18th in
sophomore Amanda Marwitz (Crystal Lake, Ill.) senior Kirsten Lake (Parker, Colo.), freshman Krista Maguire (Wausau, Wis) and sophomore Celia Venezia (Labadie, Mo.).
"We had a lot of women making their
collegiate debut so it certainly helps to see exactly where we're at from a
fitness standpoint," said Hostager. "The attitudes have been great and they've
been working hard so we're excited to see our improvement over the next two
months."
The Bulldogs head up to the Twin Cities on Sept. 9 to participate in the
Oz Memorial.
