Iowa - The
Drake men's tennis team registered a 7-0 singles mark in second-day play at the
Drake Fall Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 24) with junior Anis Ghorbel
(Sfax, Tunisia) leading the way advancing to the title match of the 'A'
flight.
After receiving an
opening-round bye, Ghorbel dispatched of Brandon Lupo of Northern Colorado,
6-1, 6-4, and Northern Illinois' Maksym Bartiuk, 6-1, 6-3.
In the bottom half of
the 'A' draw, senior Jonathan Hadash (Lapid, Israel) collected triumphs over Amrik Donkena of
Gustavus Adolphus, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2, and Billy Paluch from Creighton, 6-1, 6-1, to
move into the semifinal round.
Freshman Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina) continued his solid
collegiate start in the 'B' flight downing Ben Gendron of Northern Colorado,
7-5, 6-2, before besting Iowa's Connor Gilmore, 6-1, 6-2.
Freshman Grant Tesmer (Lincoln,
Neb.) bettered Joey MacGibbon of Gustavus Adolphus, 6-1, 6-2, in his lone
singles match in the 'C' draw.
The Bulldogs will now
play for as many as three singles title when action concludes at the Drake Fall
Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 25) at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
