DES MOINES, Iowa - Sophomore Kyndal Clark (Webb City, Mo.) hit a career-high six three-pointers and junior Morgan Reid (Kansas City, Mo.) matched a career-high with 16 points but their efforts were not enough as the Iowa Hawkeyes pulled away from the Drake women's basketball team in the final minutes to win, 82-65, Sunday afternoon in front of 2,716 fans at the Knapp Center.

Clark was the scoring leader for Drake (3-6) finishing with 19 points. Junior Alyssa Marschner (Plymouth, Minn.) added seven points to go along with seven assists and three steals. Junior Mary Pat Specht (Shawnee, Kan.) also had seven points.

Forced outside of the paint, the Bulldogs struggled from the field, shooting 39.2 percent. Drake shot 38.9 percent from three boosted by Clark's 6-of-7 performance. Iowa shot 52.5 percent from the field and 46.7 percent from beyond the arc.

Iowa (8-3) used its size to its advantage, scoring 40 of their points in the paint. Center Morgan Johnson led the Hawkeyes with 26 points and eight rebounds. Samantha Logic had 13 points and Trisha Nesbitt added 12 points.

"I think we did a good job of being scrappy today and executing in transition," Drake head coach Jennie Baranczyk said. "We did everything we could and did a great job rebounding. I've said it before and I'll say it again that Morgan Johnson is one of the best players in the country. We tried different looks on her all day and she still came through and hurt us. Credit to her and the Iowa offense."

Despite Iowa's size, Drake held a slight advantage on the boards, 32-31. Reid finished with seven rebounds before fouling out and senior Stephanie Running (Oak Creek, Wis.) pulled in five boards.

A pair of three-pointers by Clark powered the Bulldogs to a 13-4 run after the first media timeout in the first half, forcing Iowa to take a timeout at 11:29, trailing Drake 22-15. Drake's lead would climb to nine points at 26-17, but the Hawkeyes started forcing turnovers and retook the lead, 37-28, following a 14-point swing. 

The deficit increased to 11 points before Drake answered with a 6-2 run to close the half as they trailed Iowa, 39-34, at the break. 

Drake trailed by double digits early in the second half, but went on a 10-4 run to pull within five points at 63-58 with 6:41 remaining in the game. Iowa answered with an 11-1 run to extend its

lead to 74-59 with 2:14 to play and pull out the win.

"That's how we want to play with getting up and down the floor," Baranczyk said. "Too many times they slowed us down and played more half court than we would have liked but you saw when we made those runs the up and down style that we want to play with that scrappiness we want to have.

The Bulldogs will return to the Knapp Center on Friday as they host Saint Louis with tipoff scheduled for 5:05 p.m. The contest will be broadcast regionally on Mediacom Channel 22. It will also be Dollar Day with admission, soda, popcorn and hot dogs all discounted to $1.
