AMES, Iowa -- Drake sophomore Omet Kak (Des
Moines, Iowa) won the non-seeded 3,000-meters, while junior Isaac Twombly (Baldwin, Kan.) broke his school record in the indoor
weight throw at the Iowa State Classic on Friday, Feb. 10.
Kak's time of 8:25.01 was almost three seconds ahead of South
Dakota State's Greg Vollmer, who was second. Freshman Conor Wells (Des Moines,
Iowa) came in 12th (8:38.54), while senior Ben Jaskowiak (Madison, Wis.) finished 13th
(8:38.77).
Twombly's toss of 60 feet 1 inch broke his previous school record
of 59 feet 7 inches, to place third in the weight throw.
"It is great for him to break through the 60-feet barrier"
commented throws coach Mark Kostek.
"Now he can focus on bigger things in the near future."
Senior Charlie Lapham (Golden Valley, Minn.) was third in the non-seeded mile in 4:12.29, while sophomore Doug Brady (Cherry Creek, Co.) placed
14th in 4:17.28.
Sophomore Brett Wright (Longwood, Colo.) finished fourth in the non-seeded 400-meter dash clocking in at 48:04.
Senior Jon DeGrave (Lake
Villa, Ill.) was eighth in the non-seeded 200-meters finishing in 22:08.
Junior
Dan Karys (Bartlett, Ill.) claimed fourth in the long jump soaring 23 feet 6
inches.
Start
time for the final day of the ISU Classic is set for 11 a.m. tomorrow.
