LINCOLN, Neb. - The Drake men's tennis team
registered its second-consecutive victory over a ranked opponent and eighth
straight overall dispatching of No. 66 Idaho on Saturday (Feb. 18), 7-0.
The 73rd-rated
Bulldogs assumed a lead they didn't relinquish in doubles garnering wins on the
Nos. 1 and 3 courts. The tandem of
senior Cesar Bracho (Luque, Paraguay) and freshman Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina)
clinched the doubles point for the second straight match, downing Abid Akbar
and Marius Cirstea at the top spot, 8-4.
Junior Jean Erasmus (Windhoek, Namibia) gave Drake
its first tally in singles besting Cristobal Salazar at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0.
Stretching the margin
to 3-0 with his 6-0, 6-2 triumph at the No. 6 slot over Cesar Torres was
freshman Ben Mullis (Leicestershire, England).
Sealing the victory
at No. 4 was Salibasic, who downed Jose Bendeck, 6-4, 6-4.
The Bulldogs also
received wins on the Nos. 1, 2 and 5 courts from junior Anis Ghorbel (Sfax, Tunisia), junior James McKie (Edinburgh, Scotland) and sophomore Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England).
Drake returns to
action hosting Butler next Saturday (Feb. 25) at 7:00 p.m. in the Roger Knapp
Tennis Center.
