CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Drake men's track and field squad wrapped up a
successful first day of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track
and Field Championship on Saturday, Feb. 25 as the
Bulldogs finished the day sitting in fourth place with 24 team points.
Junior
Dan Karys (Bartlett, Ill.) claimed second in the long jump soaring 23 feet 10
inches.
The
distance medley squad of sophomores Doug Brady (Englewood, Colo.) and Travis Marsh (Ankeny, Iowa), along with seniors Charlie Lapham (Golden Valley, Minn.) and Matt Jurysta (Oshawa, Ontario) was third in
10:17.56.
The
sophomore duo of Brogan Austin
(Boone, Iowa) and Omet Kak (Des
Moines, Iowa) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter race.
Austin's time of 8:35.05 was less than a second behind winner Tomas Cotter,
while Kak crossed the line in 8:35.09
Lapham
qualified for the finals of the 800-meter race in 1:55.45.
Sophomore Brett Wright (Longmont, Colo.) and senior Jon DeGrave (Lake Villa, Ill.) advanced to the 400-meter finals with times
of 49.57 and 49.76, respectively. DeGrave also qualified for the 200-meter
finals in 22.23
Action at the final day of the indoor championship is set for 9:30 a.m. at the UNI
Dome.
