What's Ahead: The Drake men's
track and field squad travels north to Ames, Iowa to compete at the ISU
Classic. Combined events kick off the meet on Thursday, Feb. 9, while start
time for Friday, Feb. 10, is set for 11 a.m. with the non-seeded men's long
jump as the first event. Saturday, Feb. 11 marks the final day of the classic
with action beginning at 11 a.m. with the seeded men's 3,000-meters.
Last
Time Out: Drake sophomore Omet Kak (Des
Moines, Iowa) won the unseeded mile at the Frank Sevigne Invitational Saturday,
Feb. 4 at the Bob Devaney Indoor Track in Lincoln, Neb.
Kak's
time of 4:10.59 was two one-hundredths of a second faster than
second-place Tyler
Livingston
of North Dakota State. Fellow sophomore Brogan Austin (Boone,
Iowa) was sixth clocking in at 4:13.64.
Senior Jon DeGrave (Lake
Villa, Ill.) finished eighth in the finals of the 400-meter dash crossing the
line in 48.50.
Senior Ben Jaskowiak (Madison, Wis.) placed 14th
in the 3,000-meters in 8:44.69.
A Year
Ago: Jon DeGrave ran the second-fastest indoor
400 mark in school history at the Iowa State Classic. DeGrave's time of 48.22
earned him a 13th-place finish in the seeded section of the event.
Charlie Lapham (Golden Valley,
Minn.) registered a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter non-seeded race
clocking in at 1:54.40. Brandon Lewis was 14th finishing in 1:55.45.
Doug Brady came in sixth in the non-seeded
mile, while Matt Jurysta (Oshawa, Ontario) was
seventh. Brady clocked in at 4:17.41, while Jurysta finished in 4:18.10.
Brogan Austin earned10th-place
in the seeded 3,000 race in at 8:26.66, while Omet Kak was 21st in 8:36.27.
Up Next: Drake will compete at
the Iowa Invitational on Feb. 17 in Iowa City, Iowa.
