DES MOINES, Iowa - Extending
its winning streak to three straight, the No. 45 Drake men's tennis team posted
a 7-0 triumph past UMKC on Friday (March 23) at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
After splitting decisions at the top-two slots in doubles, the Bulldogs
recorded the doubles tally after junior Anis Ghorbel (Sfax, Tunisia) and freshman Grant Tesmer (Lincoln, Neb.) defeated Connor Edwards and Tomas Patino at No. 3,
9-8 (3).
Freshman Ben Mullis (Leicestershire,
England) pushed the margin to 2-0 in favor of Drake in singles after downing Tim Akhmedov
at the No. 6 hole, 6-0, 6-1.
Inching the Bulldogs to within a point of victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win
over Gustavo Guerin at No. 3 was freshman Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina).
Posting the match-clinching point on court No. 5 was sophomore Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England), as
he edged Edwards, 6-4, 6-1.
Drake also garnered triumphs at the Nos. 1, 2 and 4 positions courtesy
of Ghorbel, junior Jean Erasmus
(Windhoek, Namibia) and senior Jonathan Hadash (Lapid, Israel).
The Bulldogs return to action hosting Green Bay on Sunday (March 25) at
11:00 a.m. at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
