SHELTON, Conn. - The Drake rowing team took second place today in the Varsity Eight race at the Shelton Invitational. Marist was the winner of the race at 7.26.2 and Drake finished at 7.44.8.

"We raced well today and got beat by a good team in Marist," Drake head coach Charlie DiSilvestro said. "I'm happy how we did but we know we need to work on finding some more speed in the next month if we want to challenge Marist and the other teams in the conference at the conference championship in April.

Susan Goulette (New Brighton Minn.), Kat Moore (Brooklyn Center, Minn.), Maggie Benhart (St. Charles, Ill.), Madi Perington (Victoria, Minn.), Brittney Smith (Duluth, Minn.), Jessica Nightser (Council Bluff, Iowa), Emily Householter (Wheaton, Ill.), Sarah Travis (Casa Grande, Ariz.) and Jacque Nowers (Ames, Iowa) (coxswain) raced in the Varsity eight race for Drake.

In Omaha, Neb. the Bulldogs sent Junior Varsity and Novice teams to race in the Upper Midwest Championship and they posted two wins and two fourth places in the four + races and a third place finish in the Varsity Eight race.

The Drake rowing team will return to competition in two weeks at the Luebber"s Cup on Saturday, April 13 in Grand Haven, Michigan.
