Drake Garners 20th Win Edging Evansville, 5-2

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Drake women's tennis team cracked the 20-win plateau for the first time since 1992 on the strength of the Bulldogs' 5-2 victory at Evansville on Sunday (April 15).

"We rebounded well today under tough circumstances after sitting around all day as weather kept us inside," Drake head coach Paul Thomson commented.  "Evansville has a great team and battled hard.  This win was a tough one and hard earned, but it got us back on track."

The Bulldogs were forced to come from behind to earn the triumph after the Purple Aces collected the doubles tally with wins at the Nos. 1 and 3 positions.

Drake came out determined to start singles play and the results showed as the Bulldogs rolled off three unanswered victories to stakes themselves to a 3-1 advantage.

After suffering her first loss of the dual campaign a day earlier, junior Manca Krizman (Solkan, Slovenia) returned to the win column downing Dora Kotsiou on court No. 1, 6-1, 6-0.

Senior Amanda Aragon (Fort Collins, Colo.) followed by besting Kelsey Costales at No. 6, 6-2, 6-3.

Freshman Nell Boyd (Arlington Heights, Ill.) gave the Bulldogs their third tally of the match registering a 6-2, 6-2 triumph past Mina Milovic at the No. 4 position.

Evansville cut the deficit to 3-2 after a win at No. 2.

Senior Gabriela Demos (Chesterfield, Mo.) sealed the affair in Drake's favor on court No. 3 dispatching Natasha James in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (5).

Junior Ali Patterson (Overland Park, Kan.) rounded out the victory total for the Bulldogs registering a 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 triumph over Gaby Fifer at the No. 5 slot.

Drake returns to action next weekend with matches at Wichita State and Creighton on Saturday (April 21) and Sunday (April 22), respectively.
