MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - A pair of Drake University men's cross country runners finished in the top 10 at Oz Memorial as the Drake men's cross country team came in third at the event hosted by the University of Minnesota.
Junior Brogan Austin (Boone, Iowa) led the Bulldogs, finishing second, just over two seconds shy of first, with a time of 18:55.68 on the 6-kilometer course at the Les Bolstad Golf Course. Conor Wells (Des Moines, Iowa) finished in 19:25.33 to edge his way into seventh place.
Also finishing in the top third of the event was fifth-year senior Charlie Lapham (Golden Valley, Minn.), who finished 19th with a time of 19:55.05. Followed by Rob McCann in 22nd and Matt Eckman in 26th.
Minnesota State Mankato won the event with 50 points and three runners in the top 10, followed by South Dakota State with 68 points. Drake recorded 73 points, followed by Minnesota, UNI and Minnesota-Duluth. UNI's Brett Egan was the top individual with a time of 18:53.50
The Bulldogs return to action Sept. 21, when they compete in the Grand View Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa.
