MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Drake University women's cross country team turned in a second-place performance at the Oz Memorial Friday evening in its second race of the season.
"We had some great efforts across the board today," Drake head coach Dan Hostager said. "For all of the freshmen, this was their first 6-kilometer race ever and the returnees cut a lot of time off their times from last year. It was a solid start to the season and this group has a great work ethic, so we're excited about the upcoming meets."
Kirsten Lake (Parker, Colo.) led the Bulldogs again by finishing 12th on the 6-kilometer course with a time of 22:45.84 followed by Mariel Fulton (Louisville, Colo.) in 25th at 23:36.58.
Taylor Scholl (Prior Lake, Minn.) was the next Bulldog across the line in 27th place in 23:41.49 with Emma Huston (Des Moines, Iowa) and Amanda Marwitz (Crystal Lake, Ill.) rounding out the scoring in 33rd and 43rd, respectively.
The host school, Minnesota, running on their home course at the Leo Bolstad Golf Course, won the event with 15 points. Drake's 76 points were second by a large margin followed by Minnesota State Mankato, South Dakota State, UNI and Minnesota Duluth.
The Bulldogs return to action on Sept. 21 when they stay in Des Moines, Iowa, to compete at the Grand View Invitational.
