ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drake University sophomore linebacker Taylor Coleman (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) has been named the Pioneer Football League Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Sunday, Oct. 13.
Coleman earned the honor by leading Drake's defense in his first career start with eight tackles as part of a 27-6 PFL win at Davidson. Thanks to his efforts, the defense surrendered just 303 total yards of offense with Davidson's lone score coming via a short field following an interception.
Five of his tackles were solo stops, including a team-high three tackles for loss and one sack. Of his three tackles for loss, two came on first down to push Davidson well behind the chains.
Coleman shared the honor with San Diego's Blake Oliaro who recorded 10 tackles, a safety and two sacks in the Toreros' win over Marist.
Coleman and his teammates continue PFL action on the road this week at fellow defending PFL tri-champion Butler. Kickoff is scheduled for noon, CDT on Oct. 19 at the Butler Bowl.
