ST. LOUIS - Drake
junior Travis Marsh (Ankeny, Iowa) was named MVC Male Track Athlete of
the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Marsh
ran a season best time of 8.15 in the men's 60-meter hurdles Friday, Feb. 15,
at the Iowa Invite hosted by the University of Iowa. His time was the sixth
best mark in the conference this season. He also holds the top six times for
the Bulldogs in the event this season.
"Travis
has worked really hard this year to improve his mark," Drake head coach Natasha Kaiser-Brown said. "His time has dropped considerably since last year."
Marsh's
time of 8.15 is a full three-tenths of a second faster than the 8.45 mark he
ran at the 2012 MVC Indoor Championships.
Along
with his success on the track, Marsh excels in the classroom in one of the most
difficult programs at Drake University. A junior athletically, he holds a P1
standing in the school of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and plans to graduate
with a Doctorate of Pharmacy in the spring of 2016.
"He
is an outstanding student and I could not ask for a better overall student-athlete,"
Kaiser-Brown said.
Marsh will look to improve
his time and help spur the Bulldogs to a top finish at the MVC Indoor
Championships this Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23 and 24 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
