ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Missouri Valley Conference
has announced that Drake freshman Evy
Van Genechten (Antwerp, Belgium) has been named the MVC Women's
Tennis Player of the Week. The award marks the second week in a row that
a Bulldog has been honored, while representing the initial accolade for Van
Genechten during her Drake career.
Van Genechten posted a pair of victories in the Bulldogs' 5-2
setback at Iowa State last Friday.
Paired with sophomore Nell
Boyd (Arlington Heights, Ill.), the duo registered Drake's lone doubles
victory, an 8-5 decision, at the No. 3 position. In singles, she bested Ana Gasparovic at No. 3 singles, 6-4,
7-5.
On the season, Van Genechten owns a 27-21 combined singles/doubles
ledger, including 18-9 in singles. She has won her last four decisions in
singles and is 8-2 over her last 10 singles matches. During the dual campaign
she sports a 10-3 singles ledger.
Van Genechten and the Bulldogs (6-7) return to the Roger Knapp Tennis
Center this Friday (March 15) for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference showdown with
Bradley.
