WICHITA, Kan. - The Drake women's tennis team pulled in a trio of accolades when the annual Missouri Valley Conference postseason awards were announced on Thursday (April 25).
Freshman Maddie Johnson (Onalaska, Wis.) and sophomore Nell Boyd (Arlington Heights, Ill.) were tabbed first-team All-MVC honorees at the Nos. 4 and 5 singles slots, respectively, while freshman Evy Van Genechten (Antwerp, Belgium) was named to the MVC All-Select squad.
The two first-team honorees were the most for the Bulldogs since four Drake players were selected to the All-MVC first team in 1999.
Owning a 36-18 combined singles/doubles ledger this season, including 21-7 in singles is Johnson. She posted a 4-0 record in singles during the MVC campaign
Boyd maintains a 36-25 combined singles/doubles record on the campaign, including a team-high 23 singles wins. She turned in a perfect 7-0 ledger during conference play and enters the MVC Championship with a 9-1 record in her last 10 singles contests.
Van Genechten holds a 34-25 combined singles/doubles mark for the year, while sporting a 22-12 singles record. She finished the conference slate with a 3-3 record.
The third-seeded Bulldogs (12-9) open play at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship on Friday (April 26) in Wichita, Kan., against sixth-seeded Northern Iowa in a 4:00 p.m. match.
