DES MOINES, Iowa - Coming off its sixth regular season Missouri Valley Conference title in the last seven campaigns and third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, the Drake men's tennis team was recognized with five Bulldogs garnering national and regional rankings when the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) ratings were released on Wednesday (June 5).
Senior Anis Ghorbel (Sfax, Tunisia), who became only the fifth Drake men's tennis player to participate in the NCAA Championship and first since Robert Novotny in 1997, capped his career with a No. 76 singles ranking.
As a team, the 27th-rated Bulldogs finished third in the Central Regional behind Oklahoma and Tulsa.
Collecting regional recognition in singles was Ghorbel, junior Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England), senior James McKie (Edinburgh, Scotland), freshman Ben Lott (Newcastle, England) and sophomore Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina), who were tabbed seventh, 10th, 11th, 16th and 18th, respectively in the ITA Central Region. In doubles, Ghorbel and McKie were rated No. 5 in the region.
