Bulldogs Earn 1-1 Double-Overtime Tie At Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. - In its first road game of the season, the Drake women's soccer team fought to earn a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Pacific on Friday (Aug. 30).

“Tonight was a good, solid performance from us and a great way to respond from our last outing,” Bulldog head coach Lindsey Horner commented. “The game was very physical, but we held our own and competed for each other. We were under fire for stretches, yet a tie is a fair result as we had our chances to win the game as well. Pacific is a good team, and except for a couple of minutes here and there, our discipline and concentration was high.”

“It takes the whole squad playing together to get a result on the road and while there were some players that stood out, throughout the game everyone battled for each other and fulfilled their role.”

The two sides battled through a scoreless first half with the Tigers owning a 10-4 advantage in shots.

Pacific cracked the scoring column first in the affair at the 48:02 mark when Brittni Beeman delivered her initial goal of the season to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  Alex Hussar garnered the assist on the tally.

Just over six minutes later, senior Paige Dusek (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) netted the equalizer for the Bulldogs in the 55th minute (54:34) to collect her second goal of the year.  Notching the assist on the score was freshman Kayla Armstrong (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier).

Led by a game-high six shots from Beeman, the Tigers posted a 26-11 margin in shots in the affair.  Pacing the Drake attack was a four-shot effort from freshman Rebecca Rodgers (Peotone, Ill./Peotone).

Rodgers nearly ended the contest in favor of the Bulldogs at the 105:06 mark as her shot was corralled by Pacific goalkeeper Tashia Long.

Junior goalkeeper Andrea Swanson (Johnston, Iowa/Valley) pulled in a game-high nine saves for Drake, including three in overtime, while Long registered three stops.

The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday (Sept. 1) with a 1:00 p.m. CT showdown at UC Davis.
