SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Drake University sophomore goalkeeper Darrin MacLeod (Waterloo, Ontario) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday (Nov. 10) afternoon.
MacLeod earned the honor, his first of the season, on the heels of a shutout win at Bradley in the regular-season finale on Nov. 8. He successfully stopped all four shots he faced to preserve the Bulldogs' 2-0 win and his third shutout of the season. That performance was Drake's first-ever shutout against the Braves at Shea Stadium and just the third-ever win against Bradley on its home pitch.
MacLeod, who has not been scored upon in 157 minutes, owns a 5-10-3 record this season with a 1.66 goals-against average and a .737 save percentage.
He leads the Bulldogs into this week's MVC Tournament in Peoria, Ill. The fourth-seeded Bulldogs open tournament play on Wednesday, Nov. 12 with a quarterfinal contest against fifth-seeded Loyola at 3 p.m. The winner of that contest will advance to face top-seeded Missouri State on Friday at 3 p.m.
