Austin Ends Cross Country Career At NCAA Championship

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Drake University senior Brogan Austin (Boone, Iowa) ended his decorated cross country career Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Championship. One of the most decorated runners in Drake history, Austin finished 137th in the national championship field.

“It was great to see Brogan cap his collegiate career at the national meet,” said Drake head coach Dan Hostager. “While he didn't get the result he had hoped for, he ran a very aggressive race and was in the lead pack past the halfway point.”

Austin completed the 10-kilometer course in 31:51.8 as part of a 246-runner field. He passed through the first three kilometers in 48th place in 9:13.6 and vaulted up 16 places at the halfway mark to sit in 32nd place thanks to a blistering 6:17.7 split over those two kilometers.

Unfortunately, he was not able to maintain that breakneck, aggressive pace and fell back 76 spots over the ensuing three kilometers before settling into 137th place.

Following a grueling cross country season, Austin will begin training for the outdoor track season as he aims to his already accomplished resume on the oval.

“This national-level experience will provide some great motivation for his remaining outdoor season,” Hostager said of the transition to track season.
