Bulldogs Collect 7-0 Triumph Over Creighton

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake women's tennis squad extended its winning streak to four straight on the strength of a 7-0 triumph past Creighton (2-5) on Friday (Feb. 21) at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs (4-1) garnered the only point they needed in the affair with victories at the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles spots to stake themselves to a 1-0 advantage.

Sophomore Maddie Johnson (Onalaska, Wis.) and senior Klavdija Rebol (Kranj, Slovenia) registered the doubles tally besting Amanda Noonan and Liz Vermillion on the No. 3 court, 8-0.

Johnson extended Drake's lead to 2-0 after posting her 11th consecutive singles win, a 6-0, 6-3, decision over Katherine Nelsen at the No. 3 slot.

Junior Nell Boyd (Arlington Heights, Ill.) pushed the Bulldogs' margin to 3-0 bettering Noonan at No. 4, 6-0, 6-2.

Earning the match-clinching tally at No. 6 was sophomore Jordan Eggleston (LaQuinta, Calif.), who downed Sam Anderson, 6-2, 6-0.

The Bulldogs were also the recipients of victories at the Nos. 1, 2 and 5 positions, courtesy of Rebol and sophomores Mariel Ante (Riverside, Calif.) and Lea Kozulic (Varazdin, Croatia).

Rebol and Ante both garnered wins in the third-set tiebreaker to post their triumphs. The victory for Ante was her eighth straight in singles action.

Drake returns to competition on Sunday (Feb. 23) as the Bulldogs welcome Wisconsin to the Roger Knapp Tennis Center. Match time is slated for 11:00 a.m.

The showdown with Badgers marks the Bulldogs' Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Campus Kids Day, which is a free event that is designed to expose current and aspiring junior players (and their parents and coaches) to college tennis.
