SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Andy Curtis, a senior thrower on the Drake University men's track and field team, has been named one of the Missouri Valley Conference's Scholar-Athletes of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
The Manchester, Iowa, native earned the honor thanks to opening the outdoor season with a pair of top-10 finishes at last weekend's Arkansas Spring Invitational. He finished second in the hammer throw with a mark of 188-4 and seventh in the discus at 140-10. In the classroom, he has maintained a 3.94 grade point average in his biochemistry, cell and molecular biology curriculum.
Curtis was joined by Bradley's Kristen Busch in earning the weekly honor after she set a school record with the fastest 10,000-meter time in the Valley this season.
Curtis and his fellow Bulldogs will return to action this weekend when they host the Jim Duncan Invitational April 11-12 at Drake Stadium.
