DES MOINES, Iowa - Drake men's tennis junior Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina) earned recognition for his efforts in the classroom as he was chosen as a first-team Capital One Academic All-America All-District VI At-Large selection.
Maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA, majoring in international business, Salibasic has recorded a 38-22 combined singles/double mark this season, including a 16-7 record in singles play during the spring campaign. He is preparing to become only the seventh Bulldog to compete in the NCAA Championship in singles when he hits the court on May 21 in Athens, Ga.
The 2013 and 2014 MVC Elite 18 winner for men's tennis, Salibasic is a three-time All-MVC performer in singles and was named a first-team Capitol One Academic All-District selection in 2013.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable).
Salibasic advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month. Award winners will be announced on June 5.
