DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake women's tennis team will host Truman State this Saturday, Jan. 31 at 11:30 a.m. and Nebraska Omaha later in the day (6.p.m.) at the Rodger Knapp Tennis Center.
Last weekend, Drake won 4-3 against the University of Wisconsin Badgers, at Madison. Senior Nell Boyd (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and junior Maddie Johnson (Onalaska, Wis.) held the double points for Drake (1-0). Freshman Tess Herder (Lee's Summit, Mo.) won in singles competition 6-3, 6-1. Johnson claimed victory over Wisconsin's singles opponent 6-3, 6-2 and Jordan Eggleston (LaQuinta, Calif.) won by forfeit.
This will be Truman's first match of the 2015 season. Sophomore Marisa Thome heads Truman in singles, 6-2, over her last 10 matches and holds a two match winning streak. Junior Holly Cantalupo and freshmen Lindsey Schilichting lead Truman in doubles 4-2.
Omaha is 1-1 on the season with a 7-0 loss to Air Force and a 7-0 win over Nebraska Wesleyan. Drake and Omaha last met on March 3, 2013 with the Bulldogs coming away with a 7-0 win over the Mavericks.
Following Saturday's matches, the Bulldogs continue their 2015 season Feb. 6 in Lincoln, Nebraska, at 4 p.m. against the Huskers.
