DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake women's soccer team will play its only game this week on Saturday night when the Bulldogs host the Loyola Ramblers in Missouri Valley Conference action. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Cownie Soccer Complex.
Drake (6-8, 3-0 MVC) sits in first place in the MVC standings with three games remaining. After the contest against Loyola, the Bulldogs welcome UNI for Senior Night on Oct. 21 before closing the regular season at Missouri State on Oct. 24. Drake is vying for a top-two finish in the standings to secure a bye into the semifinals of the MVC Tournament, which will be held Nov. 6-8 in Evansville, Ind.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 2-1 win at Evansville this past Saturday. Junior midfielder Rebecca Rodgers (Peotone, Ill.) netted a pair of goals against the Purple Aces and has four goals in three league games this year. Rodgers has won back-to-back MVC Offensive Player of the Week awards.
Drake junior goalkeeper Brooke Dennis (Wauconda, Ill.) was also recognized by The Valley for her performance against Evansville as she was named the MVC Goalie of the Week. Dennis collected a career-high nine saves and the lone goal allowed was an own goal that occurred off a defensive miscue by the Bulldogs.
Loyola (6-6-3, 1-1-1 MVC) has dropped its last two games both non-conference matchups, but beat Missouri State, 3-0, in its last league contest. Freshman Jenna Szczesny leads the Ramblers in points (11), goals (4) and assists (3).
Drake welcomes UNI to Cownie on Oct. 21 in its final home contest of 2015. A Drake senior night recognition ceremony will be held on the field prior to the 7 p.m. game between the in-state rivals.
