STILLWATER, Okla. – The Drake University women's tennis team continued play at the ITA Central Regional Championship on Friday.
Sophomore Tess Herder was the lone Bulldog left in the main draw and fell to Oklahoma State's Maria Alvarez, 6-2, 6-1 in the round of 64. Herder rebounded quickly in a consolation match, routing South Dakota State's Tiffany Filipovich, 6-1, 6-0.
The rest of the Bulldog squad competed in consolation matches and each one came away with at least one victory. Senior Maddie Johnson topped SIUE's Morgan Steffes 6-3, 6-3 and Nebraska's Katerina Matysova 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore Adrienne Jensen put together two strong performances as she defeated UMKC's Linda Ammar Mouhoub, 6-1, 6-3 and Oklahoma's Ann Pepper, 6-2, 6-2. Summer Brills didn't get the start that she wanted as she fell to Southern Illinois, 6-1, 6-4 but ended her day on a high note by beating South Dakota State's Tacy Hawslay, 3-6, 6-4, 10-6.
The Bulldogs will host the Drake Jamboree on Friday, Oct. 23.
