"Madison played very steady today," said head coach Rachael Pruett. "It was very windy making for tough scoring conditions, but the ladies hung in there."
Freshman Grace Dunn shot an 82, good for tied for 11th, while senior Katie Clausen carded an 84. Freshmen Sophie Hill and Adrianna Elliott recorded an 86 and 90, respectively, to round out the Bulldogs' effort for the first day.
Overall, the Bulldogs totaled a 328 and are four strokes behind first-place South Dakota and just two strokes shy of second-place North Dakota.
"We learned more about the golf course and how to manage the wind today and we are looking forward to putting it to use tomorrow," said Pruett.
Drake will play its final round of the fall season on Tuesday, as the Bulldogs wrap up action at the Creighton Classic.
