SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Drake University women's tennis sophomores Adrienne Jensen and Summer Brills advanced to the semifinals of their respective draws at the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships on Friday at the Velasco Tennis Center.
Jensen opened the tournament with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Missouri State's Fatimazohra Khamissi, and will square off against Illinois State's Veronika Golanova for a spot in the Fight 2 singles finals.
Brills posted a 6-4, 6-0 win over Bradley's Alexa Brandt in the first round of the Flight 3 singles draw, and will play Evansville's Andjela Brgulijan in the semifinals.
Senior Maddie Johnson dropped an opening round match to Illinois State's Marcia Tere-Apisah, 6-2, 6-4, but rebounded quickly to defeat Bradley's Ariel Dechter, 6-3, 6-3, advancing to the fifth-place match of the Flight 1 singles draw.
Jensen and Johnson teamed up in doubles and came away with an 8-3 victory over Bradley's Lasa/Thai, earning a spot in the Flight 1 doubles semifinals. Jensen and Johnson will face off against Missouri State's Poile/Turudija for a chance to advance to the finals.
The Bulldogs will continue action at the MVC Individual Championships on Saturday.
