OMAHA, Neb. – The Drake University women's golf team overcame a four-stroke deficit entering the final round to capture the Creighton Classic, beating second-place North Dakota by eight strokes on Tuesday.

Not only did the Bulldogs finish in first as a team, sophomore Madison Glennie took home the individual title.

Glennie entered the final day tied for first with South Dakota's Brenna Lervick, and fired a tournament-low 72 (E) to finish on top of the leaderboard with a score of 148 (76-72).

“It was exciting to win and encouraging because I put a lot of hard work in during the off-season and this gives me a lot confidence going into the spring,” said Glennie “It was amazing to win as a team, because we have been putting in a lot of time and effort. It was great to come together to play well as a team.”

The rest of the Bulldogs each improved their second round scores by at least six strokes. Freshman Grace Dunn finished tied for eighth with a score of 158 (82-76), while senior Katie Clausen was seven strokes better on the final round than the first round, totaling a 161 (84-77). Freshman Sophie Hill carded an 80 on the final day for a total of 166 (86-80). Freshman Adrianna Elliott rounded out the Bulldogs strong finish with a total score of 174 (90-84).

“We fought back and made some birdies and a lot of pars in a row to beat two really good teams.” said head coach Rachael Pruett.

The Bulldogs trailed South Dakota by four strokes and North Dakota by two strokes going into the final 18-holes. Drake recorded a season-low round of 305 to finish with a total score of 633 (328-305). North Dakota finished in second with a score of 641 (326-315), while South Dakota placed in third, 643 (324-319).

The Creighton Classic marked the final fall tournament for the Bulldogs, as they will begin the spring portion of the season in February.
